The hardest part of maintaining our fitness levels and keeping our bodies in good shape is actually enjoying the exercise itself. Most of us struggle to keep our interest levels up when it comes to exercising, but when we do find the time to exercise, only a few of us will make the exercise worthwhile and put the effort in. Most of us have signed up to a local gym, but can you honestly say, hand on heart, that you used the gym as much as you could have done? Some people sign up and never use the gym membership at all.

The main reason most of us avoid the gym is because we are uncomfortable in the new surrounds as we feel self conscious around people we do not know. Very rarely are we in the mindset to meet new people in the gym, let alone hold a conversation with people we don’t know. In order to stick to a regular routine with regards to exercise we need to push ourselves to make the effort and remind ourselves why we are there in the first instance.

For moral support and to feel more comfortable in the new environment, you could invite a friend for motivation to keep you moving forward towards reaching your fitness goals. Ultimately, to move towards your goals at a reasonable pace, you need to start enjoying exercise and not think of it as as burden. A friend will encourage you to attend the gym on a regular basis and help you break any boredom you may experience whilst working out.

There is another way, however, that you can enjoy the exercise that you are doing.

You can enjoy your exercise more if you camouflage it somehow. Many of the activities that you do in the gym, for example, cycling or the treadmill could be done outside of the gym as a hobby. Why not invite a family member or loved one to ride a local cycle trail with you, or a stroll along the beach. Not only will you be getting great exercise, but you will also be spending valuable time with someone you care about. This makes your exercise regime a lot more valuable and rewarding by killing two birds with one stone and seeing the local sights with a family member or friend. You will more than likely be able to stick to this regime better than going to the gym as it may prove to be more rewarding and enjoyable.
